Recipe Tips
- For added flavor, you can mix in some fresh or dried herbs or spices like rosemary, thyme, or smoked paprika to the Ritz cracker topping.
- Make sure that you use unsalted butter so you don’t end up with a very salty dish.
- To make the dish healthier, use reduced-fat cream of chicken soup and sour cream, and serve it over quinoa or cauliflower rice instead of traditional rice or mashed potatoes.
Recipe FAQs
It’s not recommended to use frozen chicken in slow cooker recipes as it can cause the chicken to cook unevenly and increase the risk of foodborne illness. Thaw the chicken in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
If you don’t have Ritz crackers on hand, you can substitute with other types of crackers such as saltines, Graham crackers, and oyster crackers, or breadcrumbs. Just be aware that the flavor and texture of the dish may be slightly different.
Yes, just double all of the ingredients but make sure that they can fit in your slow cooker.
