This is the best and easiest way to cook hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot. You will get consistent results every single time and you won’t need to monitor the pot.

Perfect hard-boiled eggs that are very easy to peel!

Cooking eggs in the Instant Pot is definitely the best way to cook eggs especially when you’re cooking a large amount. Prepping for a potluck and you’re bringing potato salad? Get your Instant Pot out and cooking the eggs will be a breeze!

Cooking the eggs in the Instant Pot using this method also makes them easy peelers! I hate it when eggs are so difficult to peel, but it all depends on the cooking method. So the 5-5-5 method is perfect! Let me tell you more about it.

What is the 5-5-5 method?

The 5-5-5 method means pressure cooking the eggs on high for 5 minutes, natural pressure release for 5 minutes, and placing the eggs in a cold water bath for 5 minutes.

It’s a very easy method, and you’ll get perfect hard-boiled eggs every single time!

How to cook perfect hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot?

Add one cup of water to the bottom of the stainless steel insert. Place a trivet or an egg steaming rack. And place the eggs on top of the trivet or rack. I love using my egg steaming rack as the eggs sit there beautifully, but if I’m making a large number of eggs, then I just go for the trivet that came with my Instant Pot.

You have to make sure that the water is not touching the eggs though so that the eggs don’t crack, you can reduce the amount of water accordingly. The egg steaming rack is much higher than the trivet, so you can try and stack more eggs on it or just get a double egg steamer rack.

Secure the lid and set the vent to SEALING. Select the PRESSURE COOK/MANUAL setting and set the cooking time for 5 minutes at high pressure. The Instant Pot will take around 6-7 minutes to come to pressure and start cooking. When the cooking program ends, allow the steam to be naturally released for 5 minutes, then release the rest of the steam manually.

Carefully open the lid, and using kitchen tongs place the eggs in a cold water bath for 5 minutes. I usually add ice cubes to the water bath so stop the eggs from being cooked immediately as they’re placed in the water.

5 minutes later, remove the eggs from water, and they will peel easily and will be ready to be served.

Why use an ice bath?

The ice bath will stop the eggs from cooking immediately, so they won’t cook further and develop a gray/green ring. The ice bath will also “shock” the eggs which means that the eggs will be very easy to peel.

If you don’t have ice cubes available, just use cold tap water. The results won’t be as great, but it works okay.

How many eggs can I make at once?

The answer is, make as many as you want! It won’t make any difference whether you’re making 1 egg or 20 eggs.

Storing hard-boiled eggs

Unpeeled: You can store hard-cooked eggs in the fridge for up to one week if you leave them unpeeled.

Peeled: If they’re peeled, then they can be stored in the fridge in a bowl of cold water to cover for about a week, but you have to change the water daily. Otherwise, place in an airtight container with a damp paper towel.

I’ve been make hard boiled eggs in the pressure cooker for years. I put as many eggs in as I need and that has been more than a dozen at a time. I still put in 1 cup water like you and use the pressure time for 5 minutes and NR for 5 minutes. what I do is take the liner with the eggs out of the pressure cooker and put it under cold running water until the water runs out of the pot. When the water is not cold, I do it again, just like you do when you make eggs in a pan. Much, much easier.
