What is hummus?

It is a very popular Middle Easter dip and spread that is made of chickpeas (garbanzo beans). It is packed with nutrients and has incredible health and nutritional benefits. And most importantly, it’s super delicious! You can serve it as a snack, appetizer or as an addition to any meal.

Is hummus vegan?

Whilst many recipes call for yogurt, the traditional version (which is my version here) is 100% vegan.

Best hummus recipe

To make this recipe, you need to blend all the ingredients in a food processor. Serve in a medium-sized bowl, drizzle with olive oil, sumac, cherry tomatoes and herbs. Serve cold (at room temperature) with pita bread, naan or taboun bread.

What is hummus made of?

This authentic vegan recipe requires blending chickpeas (garbanzo beans), garlic, tahini (ground sesame seeds), lemon juice, olive oil, ground cumin and salt. This will give you the best recipe in no time and with minimal effort!

Is it gluten-free?

All ingredients used in this recipe are gluten-free. Therefore, you can safely dip vegetable sticks or gluten-free crackers in this dip for a gluten-free healthy snack.

Is hummus healthy?

It is packed with nutrients such as protein, fiber and unsaturated fats that are heart-healthy. However, try to stick to the recommended serving of 30g to 60g to keep calories under control.

How long does hummus last?

You can store it in the refrigerator in a tightly closed container for up to 5 days, or until it starts having a sour smell.

Can you freeze it?

It freezes well and defrosts overnight in the refrigerator. Therefore, you can keep it in the freezer for up to 6 months.
