If you have a from-scratch brownie recipe that you love, you can totally use it. But for convenience, I’m using a box of brownie mix and just adding the ingredients needed to make it.
You can do this in the oven if you wish to. But keep in mind that the baking time will change. Air Fryers are smaller than ovens, and cook food quicker. I’m including all the times and temps for you below whether you choose to bake the brownies in an air fryer or an oven.
What You Need To Make It
- Air Fryer: This recipe works in an air fryer that is large enough to fit a 8×8 inch pan. I’m using my Ninja Foodi and it fits perfectly fine. So make sure that you try and fit your baking pan in the air fryer basket before you start.
- Brownie Mix: I’m using a Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix. I also love the Ghirardelli brownie mix. And ingredients needed to make the brownies; they’re written on the box.
- Frosting: A can of chocolate frosting is perfect here. If you want to make your own, you can beat together 1 cup of softened butter with 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 5 cups powdered sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2-3 tablespoons of milk.
- Sprinkles and PEEPS: I used Confetti sprinkles and ghost marshmallow peeps. But you can go for Halloween sprinkles and other types of PEEPS like pumpkins or Frankenstein!
How To Make Air Fryer Brownies
- Preheat the Air Fryer to 350°F/180°C. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix with ingredients written on the package to make it (usually egg, oil, water). You can also mix in sprinkles if desired.
- Pour the prepared batter into the pan, and smooth out the top with a spatula. Place the pan with the brownie batter in the Air Fryer. Choose the “bake” setting if you have it, and set it at 20 minutes. If you don’t have a “bake” setting, just set the temperature to 350°F/180°C.
- Carefully remove the pan from the Air Fryer basket (use gloves!), and allow to cool down completely. Top with a layer of chocolate frosting and smooth it out with a spatula.
- Decorate with ghost PEEPS and sprinkles. The PEEPS can be laying down on the brownies, or standing up. Slice into squares, and drizzle with chocolate syrup if desired.
Tips For Making Air Fryer Brownies
- Keep in mind that all air fryers are different (and cook at different rates). So keep an eye on the brownies (start checking at 15 minutes mark). If you notice that they start to pull out of the sides or a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, it means that they’re done.
- If you’re using the same Betty Crocker brownie mix I’m using, and you’re after cake-like brownies, use 3 tablespoons water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, and 3 large eggs.
- For Neat Squares: To cut warm brownies, use a plastic knife and short sawing motions. For some reason, a plastic knife works much better than a metallic one.
- Oven: You can do this in the oven in an 8×8″, 9×9″, or 9×13″ size pans. For a 8×8″ bake at 325°F/160°C for 50-52 minutes, 9×9″ bake at 350°F/180°C 36-38 minutes, and for 9×13″ bake at 350°F/180°C for 22-25 minutes. If you’re using a non-stick pan, you need to shorten the baking time by 3 minutes.
Kids and adults will smile so big when you bring out these delicious and festive Halloween-themed brownies. Happy Halloween!
